19-Car Pileup During Height Of Storm Among Hundreds Of Crashes Reported In Region
This story has been updated. A 19-car-pileup during the height of the Nor'easter was one of numerous storm-related crashes in the region, although most motorists stayed off roadways. At least six people were injured in the multi-vehicle crash that shut down part of the Henry Hudson Parkway in upper Manhattan Wednesday, Dec. 16 during the evening hours as the snow was beginning to pile-up. Woman Crossing Roadway In White Plains Struck, Killed By SUV
A woman was killed after she was struck and killed as she crossed a stretch of the Bronx River Parkway in Westchester. The incident happened on Tuesday night, Jan. 7 at Fisher Lane in White Plains, Westchester County Police said. The woman, identified as Sandra Dekoubia, 57, of Greenburgh, was pronounced dead at the scene by Greenburgh paramedics, Westchester County Police said. Wrong-Way Driver In Head-On Crash Was Drunk, Police Say
Westchester County Police arrested a 40-year-old man on Sunday night after he drove the wrong way on the Bronx River Parkway in Eastchester and slammed head-on into another car. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. when Joseph Ayala of Yonkers, who was alone in his car, drove his 2015 Cadillac Escalade southbound in the northbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police. Stretches of four of the most traveled parkways in the area were closed late Tuesday afternoon due to flooding and a crash on northbound I-684 blocked two lanes for about an hour. With heavy rains hitting the area, the Westchester County Department of Public Works has been forced to close a stretch of the Bronx River Parkway due to flooding in the area early Tuesday afternoon. Motorists are advised that a portion of the Hutchinson River Parkway is expected to be closed over the weekend. Van Plunges Off Overpass On Bronx River Parkway In Westchester
Traffic was tied up on the Bronx River Parkway during Thursday’s morning commute when a van flew off the Cross County overpass in Yonkers, coming to a crashing half below. The driver of a van was hospitalized with minor injuries after he was driving up the westbound ramp of the Cross County Parkway shortly before 6:30 a.m. when he lost control on the curved roadway, went through the guardrail, off the edge and landed in the median of the Bronx River Parkway, police said.
