Greenwich’s Tischler Ties Manhattanville Golf Record

CLINTON, N.Y. – Manhattanville graduate student George Tischler, a resident of Greenwich, Conn., shot the first two-under round in program history Saturday in leading the Valiants to a tie for third place at the Hamilton College Quadrangular held Saturday and Sunday at the par-72 Kanon Valley Country Club and Skenandoa Club.

Manhattanville tied for third place with the host Continentals with a two-day score of 613, a total of 21 strokes behind tournament winner RPI and 17 strokes behind runner-up Rochester. Competing in perhaps their most competitive and exclusive field of the year, the Valiants shot the fourth-best round in program history with a Sunday 300.

The Valiants' first day 313 combined with Sunday's 300 ranked fifth in the school history for a two-day event. Tischler finished in fifth place with a two-day score of 148, playing in his first round as a Valiant since his freshman year of 2007-08.

The highlight was Saturday's 70, the best round of the day and matching his program-record 70, which he carded at the Moravian Invitational Sept. 20, 2007, on a par-71 course. Combined with a 78 on Sunday, Tischler carded a two-day score of 148, tying his career-best. He also tied for third place on the school's two-day scoring list and was named to the all-tournament team.

Another new face on the Manhattanville team, junior Nick Sica (Staten Island), placed ninth overall with a two-day score of 152. The transfer from FDU-Florham shot a 78 on day one and followed up by matching his career-low score with a two-over 74 on Sunday to move up the leader board.

Senior All-Region performer Mike Cresci (Belvedere, Calif.) made the top-10, tying for 10th place with a two-day score of 154. Cresci was one of three Valiants, along with Sica and junior Gonzalo Sanchez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico), to shoot a team-best 74 on Sunday.

Manhattanville returns to the links next weekend at Hebron, Conn., to take part in the Trinity College Fall Invitational on Sept. 10 and 11.
