GREENWICH, Conn. Host Tamarack Country Club won the Division 5 championship Saturday, amassing 1,020 points to outdistance Silver Spring and Weston Field Club. In one of the meet highlights, Weston's Charlie Palsho erased a 13-year-old record in the 25-meter breaststroke.
Tamarack, located in Greenwich, dominated the girls events, picking up 619 points. Silver Spring led the boys scoring with 485 points. Tamarack went 4-1 during the regular season, sharing the top spot with Stanwich, which finished fifth in Saturday's meet.
Winners for Tamarack included Maddie Haley in the 8-and-under 25-meter butterfly; Anna Ekholm in the 12-and-under 50-meter butterfly, 50 backstroke and 100 individual medley; Tyler Harkness in the boys 14-and-under 50 butterfly; Kelsey Bittel in the14-and-under 50 butterfly and 100 IM; Kris Bittel in the boys 17-and-under 50 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 IM; Charlotte Pohl in the 12-and-under 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle; Julia Ekholm in the10-and-under 25 breaststroke; Maddie Haley in the 8-and-under 25 backstroke; Carl Ekholm in the 12-and-under 50 freestyle; and Phoebe Pohl in the 17-and-under 100 freestyle. Tamarack also won two relays.
Palsho won the 10-and-under 25-meter breaststroke in 17:12, shattering the record of 17.62 set by E.J. Verrico in 1998.
