Rally Falls Short for Stitzer

Schuyler Stitzer had quite the hole to dig out of at the 93rd Met Junior Championship at Ardsley Country Club, and briefly it looked like he might. Stitzer nailed a clutch 15-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole to stay alive in the match play final against Mike Miller of Brewster, N.Y., but Miller sealed the win on the next hole, taking the title over Stitzer, 2 and 1.

Stitzer, a Brunswick School graduate, started out strong, going one-up with a birdie on the fourth hole. Miller edged back, taking the lead after the seventh hole. Miller looked like he would pull away after he birdied on the 14th and 15th holes to go three-up. Stitzer's dramatics on 16 prolonged the match, but both golfers hit for par on 17 making it impossible for Stitzer to overcome the deficit.

Stitzer, who will attend Bucknell University in the fall, defeated Sean Kelly of Staten Island, N.Y., by a one-up difference in the semifinals to reach the match against Miller.
