Greenwich's Tischler Paces Manhattanville

CLINTON, N.Y. – Paced by George Tischler’s program-record performance, the Manhattanville men's golf team took top honors at the Hamilton Fall Invitational for the second consecutive season by firing a day-two 300 Sunday to finish at 605 for the weekend.

The Valiants shot a 305 as a team on Saturday at the par-71 Yahnundasis Golf Club and then came back with a 300 on Sunday at the par-72 Skenandoa Golf Club, overtaking Williams (299-310-609) by four strokes and holding off Middlebury (310-301-611) by six strokes to place first among the 16 teams in the field.

Tischler, of Greenwich, Conn., set the new standard for both single-round and two-day proficiency. The graduate student became the first Valiant to break 70 in a competitive round with a two-under 69 on Saturday, taking a three-stroke lead into day two as the only golfer at or under par. On Sunday, he carded a three-over 75 to finish at a program-record 144 and take the individual title by three strokes over Justin Partridge of SUNY Delhi (75-72-147).

It was Tischler’s second career individual title and the first two-day win of his career, He won the Moravian Fall Invitational on September 20, 2007 by two strokes with the previous program-record round of 70. He is the first Valiant to win a non-conference two-day event since the 2003-04 season.

Senior Mike Cresci (Belvedere, Ca.) tied for 10th place at the event with a two-day score of 152. The All-Region performer shot a 78 on Saturday and then carded a two-over 74 on Sunday to move past 17 players and into the top 10 for the third time in five events this year.

Sunday’s low round for was shot by junior Nick Sica (Staten Island, N.Y.), who climbed 27 spots up the leaderboard by firing a one-over 73. Sica’s two-day total of 154 tied for 20th place overall at 154.

Sophomore Juan Ayala (Guayaquil, Ecuador) finished the weekend at 159 (T-36th place) with rounds of 77 and 82, while graduate student Lem Randall finished in a tie for 58th place by carding rounds of 86 and 78 to finish at 164.

Manhattanville will host its Manhattanville/NYU Fall Classic on Sunday and Monday at Hudson National Golf Club in Croton-on-Hudson.
