Junior Greenwich Divers Place 6th

Nine divers from the YMCA of Greenwich Marlins Junior Olympic Diving Team took sixth place overall at the 2011 USA Diving Spring Junior East Championships.

“Knoxville was a tremendous experience for our entire team,” Coach Dylan Korn said in a statement. “Because this was such a huge regional competition, the pressure was even more intense. But each of the kids dove consistently and really held their own.”

The team was up against 33 teams last week from the East region, including New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland as well as Washington, D.C.

In individual events, the squad also scored seven medals, two of which were first place. James Hopper was first in the 11-and-under boys 3-meter competition and Carolina Sculti came in first in the 11-and-under girls 3-meter competition. Both prequalified for the Sumer Junior National Championship competition in August, where they will compete against athletes from around the United States.

The seven other athletes who competed were Kirsten Parkinson, Rachel Burston, Sean Burston, Caleigh Kupersmith, Annabelle Pollack and Sydney Schrenker.
