GREENWICH, Conn. Two huge honors for Greenwichs Will McHale rolled in after the Yale football team ended its season Saturday with a 45-7 loss to Harvard.
McHale, a junior, earned second team All-Ivy League honors on Tuesday. Earlier, he was named the captain of the team for next season. He is the first Connecticut native in 11 years to lead the Bulldogs.
The linebacker finished second on the team with 75 tackles. McHales father and grandfather played linebacker at Notre Dame.
"This is an incredible honor. I am so excited to help lead our efforts in working toward an Ivy title, McHale said. "I can't wait to get going."
"Your new captain is intense, passionate, tireless and great for this team," Yale Coach Tom Williams told his team.
McHale, a three-time varsity letterman, has 133 career tackles and three interceptions. He was a three-year varsity letterman at Greenwich High School and led the team with 86 tackles as a junior while earning second-team all-league and team defensive MVP honors. McHale played on the 2006 and 2007 league and state championship teams but missed his senior season with an injury.
