Greenwich Wrestler Takes 2nd at State Open

Greenwich wrestler Ben Ceci finished second at 189 pounds in Saturday's State Open at the New Haven Athletic Center. Ceci will compete in the New England Regional next week, also at the New Haven AC.

Ceci dropped a 7-1 decision to Aren Norman of Bacon Academy in the championship bout. Ceci, 44-3 on the season, advanced to the championship match with three decisions. He defeated Tyre Pinder of Weaver, 3-0, Kyle Foster of Somers, 7-2, and Brandon Koch of Windham, 6-5. The loss was his first to a state wrestler this season. Ceci won the Class LL and Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championships in consecutive weekends leading to the Open.

Johnny D'Elia finished sixth at 112 pounds for Greenwich. He went 3-3 in the tournament, and lost the match for fifth place to Newington's Brian Amato, 5-2. James Cummiskey, wrestling at 152, went 2-2 in the tournament.
