Greenwich Woman 3rd in Age Group Triathlon

GREENWICH, Conn. – Karen Newman of Old Greenwich finished third in her age group Saturday at the USA Triathlon Age Group Championship in Burlington, Vt.

Newman, 50, finished 178th overall and was 43rd among 187 women. She finished the race in 1:22.24. The race consisted of a 750-meter (0.47-mile) swim, a 20K (12.4-mile) bike ride and a 5K (3.1-mile) run. Newman, a breast cancer survivor, was fifth among Connecticut women. Megan Kelly of Stamford led Connecticut women across the finish line, finishing 143rd overall in 1:20.08.

In an Olympic distance race at nationals, Robert Dahl finished eighth in the men's 55-59 age group. He finished 2:17.10 for a race that consisted of a 1.5K (0.93-mile) swim, 40K (24.8-mile) bike and 10K (6.2-mile) run. He was 442nd overall.

Joseph Turcsanyi was 402nd overall (50th in the 30-34 age group) and Katha Diddel Warren was 1,181st overall and 28th in the 50-54 age group. Zachariah Pratt of Riverside was 215th overall and 28th in the 35-39 age group. Anja Krieger Redwood, 24, finished ninth (385th overall) in her age group, and Anne MacKell was 1,337th overall and 43rd in her division. Eben Jones of New Canaan won the men's 50-54 age group at the Olympic distance. Complete results are available online
