Greenwich Sails to Class LL Swim Title

The Greenwich girls' swim team has returned to the top of Class LL after a year's absence. The Cardinals dominated Wednesday's swim meet finals at Wesleyan University, reclaiming their throne as rulers of their division. It's Greenwich's fifth Class LL title in six years.

Greenwich blew the competition out of the water, compiling a whopping 958.5 points. The next closest team was Glastonbury with 499.5 points, followed by Staples with 467. Greenwich won all three relay events, ensuring victory.

Erin Calderoni was a star for the Cardinals, grabbing the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.57. Teammate Jesse Evans was right behind her at 1:53.88. Calderoni also took second in the 500-yard and was a member of the winning 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

Greenwich also took three of the top four spots in the diving competition with freshman Emily Stotesberry grabbing first (412.50), Chloe Russack second (380.45), and Megan Mahoney fourth (312.55).

With the Class LL title under its belt, Greenwich will shoot for the CIAC Open Championship this weekend. The diving competition takes place Friday at Hamden High School at 6 p.m. The swimming races will be held Saturday at noon at Yale University.
