Greenwich Pair Repeats as Platform Champions

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Ken Dardis and Max LePivert of the Stanwich Club in Greenwich won their second straight Division 1 title in the main draw of the Paul Fowler Invitational Tournament hosted by the Fairfield County Platform Tennis League.

The Stanwich team defeated Dave Gedney and Bryan Kelley of Darien’s Wee Burn Country Club in the finals, 6-2, 6-0.

Other winners in Division 1 included Patrick Mullin and Tom Richardson of Woodway in the consolation draw, Dave Mueller and John Fay of the Country Club of Darien in the main draw reprieve and Larry Garinger and Alan DeCoster of Millbrook in the consolation reprieve.

Peter Oman and Reed Hagman of the Wilton YMCA won the Division 2 title. Rick Swift and Gaynor Brennan of the Stamford Yacht Club won the consolation division. Scott Hapgood and Christian Brown of Darien won the main draw reprieve, and Kip Meyer and Brian McCormick of Rowayton Paddle Club won the consolation reprieve.

Dave Wheeler and Ross Molloy of the Country Club of Darien won Division 3. Other winners included Billy Peters and Bill Hogan (consolation), Justin Burley and Matt Bradford (main draw reprieve) and Ken Kupersmith and Jake Morris (consolation reprieve.

Wilton YMCA members swept the Division 4 crowns. Dan Zahler and Jed Wisniewski won the main draw. Bob Perez and Nichol Hall (consolation), Ron Gayda and Greg Fennessey (main draw reprieve) and Greg Sandor and Jim Furnival (consolation reprieve) also won championships.

Paul Sachs and John Salerno of the Stamford Italian Center won the main draw in Division 5. George Laub and Eric Welles won the consolation division. Ken Wentworth and Rich Goldman of Roxbury won the main draw reprieve, and Morgan Cole and Tom Kinsley won the consolation reprieve.

Rowayton Paddle Club’s George Rzepecki and Nick Weisser won the main draw in Division 6. Jamie McLaughlin and Cassin Maloney of Middlesex took consolation honors. Jon Rockman and John Crouse (main draw reprieve), and Kurt Geisler and Brant Beher (consolation reprieve) also won titles.

In Division 7, Gary Cortell and George Lasicki of the Stamford Italian Center took the main flight. James Barnett and Bob Vredenburg won the consolation draw, while Jeremiah Staffard and Lou Cavaliere (main draw reprieve) and Roy Winkles and Richard Wood (consolation reprieve) also won titles.

The tournament is the largest one-day paddle event in the country. Matches were played at 14 sites throughout lower Fairfield County, with the finals held at Country Club of New Canaan and New Canaan Field Club. The competition featured 16 two-man teams in each division.
