GREENWICH, Conn. To say that the 2010 season was a disappointment for the Greenwich High School football team would be an understatement. Injuries to just about every key player and bad luck doomed the Cardinals to a 5-5 record. It was the first non-winning season for Greenwich in more than a decade. For a team used to winning championships, it was a bitter pill to swallow.
In the video, Greenwich head coach Rich Albonizio discusses how his team can bounce back in 2011. After a season of uncertainty at quarterback, Liam O'Neil is established under center and ready to lead a reinvigorated offense. Shane Nastahowski will look to wreak havoc on both sides of the ball as a defensive captain at linebacker and chewing up yards as a running back.
Greenwich will be tested right away in its opening game when it hosts Ridgefield on Friday, Sept. 16. The Cardinals will also take on Bassick, Fairfield Ludlowe, Westhill and Brien McMahon on their home turf. Greenwich will hit the road to take on Trumbull, Bridgeport Central and Danbury as well as Staples for their annual Thanksgiving Day showdown.
