Greenwich Girls Reach Soccer Title Game

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich’s girls soccer team bounced back after allowing an early goal to knock out top-seeded St. Joseph of Trumbull, 4-1, in conference semifinals Thursday at Norwalk High School.

The fourth-seeded Cardinals (12-2-4) will meet No. 7 Fairfield Warde in Saturday’s league championship game at 2 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe High School.

Shannon Colligan scored twice for Greenwich, the defending Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference champions. Naomi Leeds and Amanda Onofrio also added goals for the Cardinals.

Samantha Grasso scored three minutes into the game for St. Joseph. The stunned Cardinals re-grouped and came back to score four minutes later when Onofrio knocked in a rebound. Emma Christie set up the go-ahead goal by Colligan in the eighth minute. Greenwich’s final two goals came in the second half.

Greenwich lost to St. Joseph, 2-1, during the regular season. It now meets Warde, which advanced with a 1-0 win over Wilton. The Cardinals beat the Falcons, 3-0, on Sept. 21.
