Greenwich's girls track and field team finished off a strong Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship meet with a victory in the 4 x 400 relay as the Cardinals finished fourth Tuesday at Danbury High School.
Greenwich's boys also finished fourth. Danbury won the team title in both races. Greenwich's girls compiled 62.5 points, while the boys had 58.
Greenwich's girls won two relays. The 4 x 400 team of Elizabeth Markowitz, Cate Wright, Abigail Markowitz and Amanda Michaud blazed home in 4:01.9, followed by Danbury in 4:02.87. The 4 x 100 team won with Michaud, Claire D'Etiveaud, Naomi Leeds and Wright in 50.47.
The only individual win for the Greenwich girls came from Abigail Markovits, who won the 800 in 2:18.78. She was also second in the 1,600 in 5:06.54.
Other girls who picked up points in individual events for Greenwich included Michaud (third, 400), Elizabeth Markowitz (sixth, 400), Wright (sixth, 300), D'Etiveaud (third, high jump) and Alessandra Herrera (fifth, discus). Greenwich was also sixth in the 4 x 800 relay with Kristina Kates, Kathryn Bernstein, Kana Jitsuno and Elizabeth Marowitz.
Greenwich's boys were led by Tyler Helmrich and Robert Gelcius, who went 1-2 in the javelin. Helmrich threw 162 feet, 0 inches, and Gelcius threw 155 feet, 0 inches. Helmrich was also sixth in the shot put and fifth in the discus.
Other athletes to pick up individual points for Greenwich included Tim Frazier (third, 100 and 200), Victor Dahl (sixth, 1,600) and Ryan Kelly (third, 400). Greenwich also took second in the 4 x 100 relay with Frazier, Kelly, Nick Pulitano and Marcus Motill.
