The meet featured nearly 1,000 swimmers under the age of 14, competing in 110 events over three and a half days of competition. The Dolphins won a combined 14 individual gold, silver and bronze medals, and another 10 relay top-three placings.
The Swim Seventy Aquatic Club came in first, followed by Cheshire YMCA and Wilton YMCA. The top 10 was rounded out by host Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club, Mandell JCC, West Hartford Aquatic Team, Ridgefield Aquatic Club, New Canaan YMCA and the YMCA of Greenwich.
Individual Dolphins meet champions include 14-year-old Samantha Scott, with four gold medals and Meghan Lynch, with three. Scott won the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-free, and the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes.
Lynch's golds, in the 11-12 class, were for the 500-freestyle, the 100-individual medley and the 200-indiviudal medley. Lynch also took silver for the 200-free, 100-breaststroke and 100-free. The 500-yard freestyle effort was both a state and resident record for Lynch.
The Dolphins' other gold came in the meet's second-to-last race, where Samantha Ennis, Olivia Baine, Lynch and Avery Sammons combined for a win in the 400-yard medley.
Other individual medalists included
- 12-year-old Alexander Hazlett won a pair of bronze medals, for 500-free and 100-butterfly
- 12-year-old Samantha Ennis won a pair of bronze medals, including for the 100-individual medley
- and 13-year-old Claire Michalik also added a pair of bronze medals, including for the 200-individual medley
The meet was also a qualifier for the USA Eastern Zone Short Course Championships, which will be in Webster, New York, on March 24-26. Dolphins Bucaria, Ennis, Flood, Liu and Lynch will attend.
"This was a great championship for our team from top to bottom, we had over 250 individual races and nearly 200 lifetime best efforts in the most competitive age group meet in the state," said Dolphins Coach Nick Cavataro. "We were very pleased at the way our kids competed."
