Greenwich Displays Tennis Talent At Town Tourney

GREENWICH, Conn. – Some of Greenwich's best tennis talent competed in the annual town tennis tournament this past weekend with several thrilling matches in eight different contests at Binney Park.

The tournament was the culmination of three weeks of qualifying matches hosted by the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation.

The women's doubles championship provided some of the best drama of the afternoon, as Judy Schultz and Susan Jaffe needed three hours to finally defeat Meg DeCaro and Virginia Correll, 7-6, 7-5.

DeCaro found victory in the women's singles in another grueling match, defeating Rebecca Moore 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).

The men's 50-and-over championship featured a town tournament first, as Adam Finkelstein defeated his brother Robert, 6-2, 6-3.

Terry O'Brien and TW Goodwin needed three sets to win the men's doubles title against Craig Schultz and Scott Polkingmorne, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. Schultz came back with a victory in the men's 35-and-over singles, defeating Robert Woodbury, 6-3, 6-0.

In the youth categories, Tess Lamahour topped Sarah Walker, 6-4, 6-4, in the 12-and-under final, while Chris Salisbury won his second 17-and-under title in three years with a 6-2, 6-2 victory versus Grant Wang.
