Greenwich Cheer Team Earns Silver Medal At Nationals

GREENWICH, Conn. – The Greenwich-based CT Spirit All-Stars Amazonites team, made up of 15 girls ages 14 and under, won a silver medal at the U.S. Finals earlier this month in Providence, R.I.

Amazonites competed against seven teams in the Small Junior Level 2 division and missed first place by less than one point.

The girls finished 25th out of 128 all Junior Level 2 teams in small and large divisions, from 26 states and Canada.

"With the Amazonites we have always referred to them as Amazing-ites and they stepped up to the challenge and truly were amazing,''' said Christopher Mendyka, one of the coaches. "We couldn't be more proud."

Members of the Amazonites are Greenwich's Rebecca Valdosvinos, Erica Smith, Valeria Tomayo,  Leeza Santana, Chelsea Clark, Devon O’Gorman, Andrea DePaula, Victoria Sobeski, Gracie Lombardi and Jessica Rosabella; Shelton's Casey Carotenuto, and Kaitlyn Khachadoorian,; Derby's Chanel Reese; Hayley Piccolino of Mount Pleasant, N.Y., and Alyssa Biondo, of Rye, N.Y.
