Greenwich Boys Open State Tourney on Road

GREENWICH, Conn. - After a one year absence, the Greenwich High School boys basketball team returns to the state tournament Tuesday.

The 23rd-seeded Cardinals travel to 10th-ranked Manchester for a 6 p.m. game.

Greenwich (11-9) jumped out to one of its best starts in recent memory, going 8-2 in the first half of the season. The back half was not so kind to the Cardinals, as Greenwich stumbled into the postseason with a 3-7 record in its final 10 games. Greenwich dropped its last three games of the regular season and missed the conference playoffs.

The Cardinals' biggest win of the season came back in early January when they upset Trinity Catholic, 43-41. Greenwich will have to find its defensive footing that made it so dominant in the first half of the season if it hopes to get deep into the playoffs. The Cardinals are looking for their first state tournament win since 2008.

Greenwich is led senior forward Greg Donlic, senior guard Alejandro Rodriguez, junior guard Alex McMurray and junior center Sem Kroon.
