Grand Slam Sinks Legion Team

The Greenwich Legion senior baseball team tried to mount a dramatic comeback Saturday, but the hole they dug was just too deep. New London overpowered the ninth-seeded Cannons for much of the game and came out on top, 10-7.

The bats had been quiet for most of the day and Greenwich trailed 10-2 in the top of the ninth. Things got interesting when the Cannons plated five runs in the inning, including a two-run double from Rick Riscica. The deficit was too much, though, and the rally fell short. The deciding blow for New London was a grand slam in the seventh.

Greenwich has a difficult road ahead, now heading to the losers' bracket in the Round of 16 of the Connecticut state tournament. They were taking on number-one seeded RCP early Sunday. RCP was stunned by 16-seeded Stamford yesterday.
