GREENWICH, Conn. The Brunswick baseball team escaped with one of its most exciting victories of the season Thursday, rallying for three runs in the top of the seventh and one in the eighth to stun Hamden Hall in extra innings, 4-3.
Jack Voigt hit a two-out, two-run single to knot the contest at 3-3 with the game on the line. Ryan Hardin scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to put the Bruins ahead for good.
Brian Schutzman went the distance again for Brunswick, settling down after giving up three runs (one earned) in the first two innings. In eight innings pitched, Schutzman scattered four hits and struck out eight, including the final batter of the game. Brunswick's ace raised his season strikeout total to 36 in 33 innings.
The win came after Brunswick's eight-game win streak was recently snapped. Back to their winning ways, the Bruins will travel to Coney Island on Saturday to take on Monroe Woodbury High School at MCU Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones.
