GREENWICH, Conn. Greenwich resident and CBS executive Mike Aresco has been named the next commissioner of the Big East college sports conference, according to ESPN.
Aresco, who has been the vice president of programming at CBS since 1996, will take over the conference that the University of Connecticut plays in, after several high-profile defections of other colleges. Pittsburgh and Syracuse left for the Atlantic Coast Conference, while West Virginia split for the Big 12.
Aresco replaces interim commissioner Joseph Bailey III, who reportedly did not want the job. Bailey replaced John Marinatto, who was pressured out of the position in May after the three schools defected.
The Big East has since added Central Florida, Houston, Memphis, Southern Methodist and Temple University for all sports; and Boise State, San Diego State and Navy for football.
