Superintendent of Schools Bill McKersie has appointed Jennifer Lynn Bencivengo as the Interim Principal effective July 1, according to an announcement.
She is now the assistant principal at North Mianus School, a position she has held for nine years. Bencivengo has also run the Greenwich Public Schools Summer School program since 2011. She will continue in this role for the 2016 Summer School program.
“I am humbled and honored to return to Old Greenwich School as Interim Principal. OGS has an impressive reputation as a School of Distinction with a wonderfully international community. I am looking forward to contributing to the long history of success for the 2016-2017 school year," Bencivengo said.
She is credited with "closing gaps in achievement and increasing enrollment by 43 percent in six years," said the announcement.
Her strong knowledge of curriculum and assessments and her enthusiasm and passion for elementary education impressed interview committee members, teachers and parents, among them.
Calling Bencivengo "a talented educator with a deep understanding of pedagogy," Deputy Superintendent Dr. Ellen Flanagan said she "recognizes the power of data to positively impact teaching and learning and has considerable leadership experience as an assistant principal and as the program coordinator for the GPS Summer School program."
The search is on for an interim assistant principal for North Mianus School, an appointment anticipated by the end of July.
The search for principal of Old Greenwich School will be conducted at the start of the hiring season in January.
Bencivengo received a bachelor of arts degree with a triple major in elementary education, secondary education and English from Boston College in 1997; a master of arts degree with a major in humanities from Wesleyan University, Middletown in 2000; and a sixth year certificate in administration from the University of Connecticut, Stamford in 2003.
