The Board of Education has announced plans to go digital with the system for recording board meetings and school events. Newly hired media specialist Aaron Johnson will supervise the conversion.
"Aaron will be moving us forward and responsible for all technical support for board meetings and district events," said board chairmen Steven Anderson. "Part of Johnson's responsibility is recruiting students, and he has already set the stage for this." Johnson is recruiting student volunteers from Greenwich High School to help with recording. Board and school events are presently taped in VHS format.
The changes will go into effect as the technical team retrains on the new software and hardware. The equipment will support better scheduling and better distribution to the town's Channel 78 and online. Anderson noted that in upcoming weeks the VHS tapes will be archived.
Johnson will help students learn professional skills with all forms of media. He will also assist with the visual literacy strand curriculum that works with kindergarten through eighth-graders. "Johnson will help students film, script, edit and post to the Web site visual tours of each of the schools," said Anderson.
Johnson is recruiting students through the media classes he teaches as a part-time teacher at the high school. Anderson said the project is should be completed by the next school year.
