Winners were honored on Sunday, March 6, at a regional awards ceremony at Manhattanville College. The four middle school students who won Gold Key awards will have their pieces automatically entered in the national contest. That awards ceremony will be on June 2, in New York City.

"These four students and all of our Middle School Scholastic Writing Award recipients achieved this recognition through hard work and perseverance across six weeks of intense workshop classes," said Middle School English teacher Marc Maier.

The four students who won Gold Keys are seventh-grader Charlotte Brauer, from Greenwich; eighth-grader Sophia Georgas, from Greenwich; seventh-grader Catherine O'Shea, from Rye, New York; and eighth-grader Chiara Schmidt, from Greenwich.

"It is interesting to note that there was no middle school category, but that our students competed against high school students," said David Olson, Middle School head. "The success of our students is a testament to their effort and talent and to the work of our teachers."

The Middle School students all won in the poetry category.

Six Middle School students also won eight Silver Medals: seventh-grader Sofia Fonti, seventh-grader Fiona Lewis, seventh-grader Ursula Wise and eighth-grader Sydney Kim each won one, and seventh-grader Carolina Oxenstierna and eighth-grader Rachael Ali each won two.
