That Poetry Guy visited Greenwich Academy recently and showed students how to use their rhyme and reason creatively in verse.
Children's writer and teacher Ted Scheu met with students to demonstrate how simple acts could be turned into language through poems. He had third and fourth graders draw a heart map and fill it with people and places they love and things they excel in. Third-grader Grace Schultz wrote about her skills in ice hockey. Fourth-grader Anisha Laumas posed the question "What Am I?" in her poem.
"It's a voice that's worried, questioning, silly and serious, slightly polite and gently irreverent, all at the same time," said Scheu. "It's a voice that tickles gigglebones and tugs at heartstrings."
Before he left, Scheu gave the students a "poetic license" and read a poem he wrote about GA.
