Parkway Principal Resigns for New Position

Parkway School Principal Paula Bleakley announced her resignation from Greenwich Public Schools on Wednesday to take the position as principal at Holmes Elementary School in Darien.

“I have a very deep affection for [the] Parkway community,” Bleakley said in a statement. “Parkway is a place that I love dearly, and it will be very hard for me to leave. However, I believe that at this point in time it is the best decision for my family.”

Bleakley’s resignation will be effective June 30. Before working in Greenwich, she spent the early part of her career at Kings Highway Elementary School in Westport, where she was a fourth grade classroom teacher. She went on to become the school’s reading and math support teacher and developed new assessments and programs to improve student performance. In 1999, she became a teaching administrator before becoming principal for the Tilford W. Miller and Ina E. Driscoll Schools in Wilton in 2000. She then was named assistant principal for Kings Highway Elementary School.

Since 2005, Bleakley has been principal at Parkway. She established programs and strategies for improving instruction, including the implementation of a building-based leadership team responsible for designing professional learning programs for the staff. She also established a Classroom Walkthrough Research Team and a schoolwide social, emotional, character education program.

For the Greenwich district, Bleakley served as co-chair of the Elementary Report Card Committee, responsible for developing a new standards-based elementary report card. She was a member of the district’s professional learning steering committee that redesigned professional learning plans for early release days and worked with the deputy superintendent, principal and PTA representatives to study school improvement planning as a participant on the K-12 Strategic Improvement Team Revision Committee.

“It has been a pleasure working with Paula for the past two years. I wish her a world of success in her new position,” Superintendent Sidney Freund said in a statement.

The district said Wednesday it plans to appoint a new principal for Parkway School soon.
