GREENWICH, Conn. David Ross, the administrator in Greenwich High School's Cantor House, will retire July 1 after 38 years in the district.
Ross began teaching at Eastern Junior High School in 1974 before moving to the high school in 1983 as a senior teacher. In 2003, he became the program administrator for social studies in grades 9-12 and was appointed housemaster of Cantor House in 2006.
Ross also was president of the Greenwich Education Association from 1980 to 1983 and worked with then-Superintendent Ernie Fleishman to establish the Greenwich distinguished teachers awards program.
"I am honored to have been able to spend my career in education with the Greenwich Public Schools and to have contributed to the creation of programs such as the distinguished teachers awards, honoring the many talented and dedicated teachers that work in our schools," Ross said in a statement.
Ross also helped developed courses such as World Themes, taken by every ninth grade student.
Ross was "an excellent spokesperson" for the association, who "supported teacher rights and good teaching equally," Joanne Zammit, a retired Greenwich Public Schools' teacher and past Greenwich Education Association president, said in a statement.
