Kindergarten Registration Begins in Greenwich

GREENWICH,Conn. – Parents, it's just about time to register your kids for kindergarten in Greenwich.

Parents will begin the process this month and in March with an orientation at each of the schools. Parents are then asked to make an appointment in March or April for to verify residency and register their children at their respective school. On May 17, incoming kindergarteners can visit their new classrooms.

Kindergarten orientation and registration schedules for Greenwich elementary schools are available online. All schools will mail invitations for Kindergarten Visitation Day to families that have registered or are otherwise known to the schools as having incoming students. Parents and guardians that have a child entering kindergarten in the Fall of 2012 who do not receive a letter from the school in their attendance district should contact that school office for information on this process.

To register children for kindergarten, parents must provide a birth certificate and proof of residence. Before school, the nurse must review a child’s record of immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus), polio, and HIB (Haemophilius Influenza type B). Children will also need a complete physical exam.

Children who will turn five years old by Dec. 3 are eligible for kindergarten, but parents may wait until a child turns six years old to enroll them.
