The Greenwich Alliance for Education invites the community to help make beautiful music happen in the schools with a fundraiser for its Tuning In to Music program.
"Studies have show that music education can help a child succeed in other academic areas as well," said Julie Faryniarz, executive director of the alliance. "Tuning In to Music gives students access to opportunities that they otherwise might not have."
The program provides private lessons for elementary and middle school band and orchestra students in the Greenwich Public Schools who may not be able to afford them. Dozens of students are receiving private violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trombone, trumpet and saxophone lessons. Ken Kuo, a concert cellist and founder of the Connecticut School of Music, runs the program. The program's goal is for students to continue their interest in music through high school.
The fundraiser is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 10 at Asiana Café. It will feature a buffet-style dinner, silent auction and a short performance by program instructors. Tickets are available for $125, $250 and $500. For more information, call Julie Faryniarz at 203-340-2323.
