Guns 'N' Roses Guitarist Skypes Greenwich Kids

GREENWICH, Conn. — Students in the "School of Rock" at Greenwich's Whitby School have been Skyping with members of the iconic heavy metal rock band Guns N' Roses

Students in fifth to eighth grade had a live jam session via Skype last week with guitarist Richard Fortus. Fortus told the students he started playing the violin when he was four and the drums when he was five.

The students played the Guns N' Roses classic, "Sweet Child of Mine," for Fortus, who is the second member of the band to Skype with the Whitby School.

Last month, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal also gave the students a guitar lesson over the Internet video service.

Also joining the session with Fortus was Bob Capazzo, guitarist for Fairfield County band Merlin. Other musicians who will visit the School of Rock this semester are Chris Bishop, a bassist for Robert Palmer and the James Montgomery Band; and Mike Suppa, a guitarist who has performed Ace Frehley, of Kiss, among others.
