Guidelines Released for Free School Lunches

GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Connecticut State Department of Education has announced household income guidelines under which students can qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

The guidelines are set by the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs and the Special Milk Program. They are available online.

Application forms are being sent to all homes with a letter to parents. Anyone who thinks they qualify should fill out the application and return it to the school. Additional copies are available at the principal’s office at each school.

If a household member becomes unemployed or if household size changes at any time, the family should contact the school to file a new application. Such changes could make the children of the household eligible.

If parents wish to make a formal appeal, a request may be made orally or in writing to Ms. Mary P. Forde, director of Pupil Personnel Services, Board of Education, 290 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich, CT 06830. Telephone (203) 625-7400 for a hearing to appeal the decision.
