Greenwich Academy's Pre-Connecting and Connecting Class students boycotted a bus ride to demonstrate fairness and equality after a bus driver would not allow red-haired teachers to sit on the bus.
Teachers at GA's Ridgeview School came up with an idea to bring a story come to life so the girls could experience the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. After learning about Rosa Parks and her involvement in acts of civil disobedience in the fight for equal rights, students and teachers re-enacted the bus boycotts of the South in the 1950s. More than 60 students, teachers and volunteers walked 15 minutes from the Ridgeview campus to GA's main campus as part of the Jan. 11 activity. The girls proudly walked back to their classrooms carrying signs and waving flags as part of their early celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
