GREENWICH, Conn. The pre-preschool set in Greenwich is getting an early taste for learning through a series of reading sessions by the Greenwich Alliance for Education and its Storymobile.
In order to fill a need identified by the Greenwich School Readiness Council, the Storymobile parked at Wilbur Peck, a public housing community, for three mornings during April and May giving lessons to groups of children from infant to 5-years-old.
The presenter modeled a way for parents and caregivers to share the reading experience with their children at home. The young audience listened to a lively reading of Eric Carls The Very Hungry Catepillar in Spanish and English, sang a butterfly-themed song, and recited a poem. At the end of the read-aloud, each child received a copy of the story as well as a backpack.
The sessions, an extension of the alliances Going Places with Books program, seek to promote early literacy for Greenwich kids by fostering enthusiasm for books and language.
