Snow days are usually a joyous occasion for kids: a time filled with hot chocolate, sledding and snowball fights. But for students at Greenwich High School nearing the end of midterms, they have only been a hassle. "The snow day [on Tuesday] was just annoying because we couldn't review," said Katie Borde, a sophomore, referring to the time when teachers go over the topics that will be on tests. Tuesday was supposed to be an extra review day.
Tests were pushed back at Greenwich High with Friday morning's two-hour delay, but students complained about the multiple distractions. "I know a lot of kids just want to get it over with," said Emily Rose Jacobs, a senior. "[Snow days] are making it a lot easier to procrastinate."
Kids are also beginning to worry about being in school longer in June with two of the five allotted snow days gone. "I'm more scared that our summer will be affected. I really don't want to stay in school all of June. That would just stink," said sophomore Ellie Zadik. Kim Eves, communications director for Greenwich Public Schools, said that if the snow days were used up, schools would cut spring break short or tack days on in June.
For other students, however, the days off are a welcome reprieve. "It's not a big deal," said Alex Moore.
