GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich High School student William Yin took home a top ranking prize during the ninth annual I-SWEEP International Science Fair held in Houston from Wednesday through Sunday.

Yin won in the category of Environment- Health and Disease Prevention, for his project, “Development of a Portable, Tattoo-Based Biosensor for the Non-Invasive, Low-Cost Diagnosis of Atherosclerosis via Iontophoresis of Macrophage-Targeting Silver Nanoparticles.”

This year an additional prize was awarded to Yin – an all-expense-paid trip to attend the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar (SIYSS), which includes attendance at the Nobel Prize ceremonies, in Stockholm, Sweden.

The International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering and Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) is the world’s largest international science fair focused on energy, engineering and environment.

Finalist students were selected to compete at I-SWEEEP by winning a top prize at state or national science fairs in their respective locales. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to meet other students from different parts of the world while seeing that they are not alone in their commitment to find solutions to the globe’s sustainability problems. A total of 564 young high school researchers and 300 teachers traveled to Houston for the event.
