GREENWICH, Conn. Greenwich High School students scored higher in all subjects on this years standardized tests. Elementary and middle school students made strong gains but slipped in some areas.
Scores were released Thursday for the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) and Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT), which are administered annually in March to students across Connecticut.
The CMT tests math, reading and writing for grades three through eight, and science for grades five and eight. The CAPT covers math, reading, writing and science for 10th-grade students. Both have five levels of performance for each subject: below basic, basic, proficient, goal and advanced.
The scores for Greenwich sophomores rose in all four subjects, with the highest gain in writing. Nearly all 10th graders more than 90 percent reached proficiency in all four subjects while more than two-thirds hit goal.
A large majority of Greenwich elementary and middle school students showed proficiency in all subjects, with more two-thirds of students hitting goal in all areas.
Third-graders showed strong gains in all subjects while fourth-graders improved in math and reading but slipped slightly in reading.
Fifth-graders showed strong gains in all subjects but sixth-graders results were mixed, with a drop in reading, an increase in writing and only a slight gain in math.
The scores for seventh-graders dropped slightly in math and reading but rose in writing. Eight-graders fell slightly in math, but made gains in reading, writing and science.
