Greenwich High Ranks Among 'Most Challenging' In The Nation

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich High School is considered one of the most challenging public high schools in the country – and the most challenging in Fairfield County, according to The Washington Post’s “Most Challenging High Schools” of 2013 listing.

Out of more than 2,000 public and private high schools nationwide, Greenwich was listed at No. 672. In the Northeast region, Greenwich ranked No. 85 out of 264 schools.

Of the 18 Connecticut high schools that made the list, Greenwich was ranked as the sixth-most challenging and the most challenging in Fairfield County. It is followed by Weston High School at No. 7 and Ridgefield High at No. 8, Staples High in Westport at No. 9 and Wilton High School at No. 10. Fairfield Warde also made the list at No. 12, and New Canaan placed at No. 14.

The rankings are based on each school’s index score. These scores are determined by the number of college-level tests given at a school each year and divided by the number of seniors who graduated that same year, the Post explains.

Nationwide, American Indian Public Charter in Oakland, Calif., was rated as the No. 1 most challenging school. In the state, Connecticut IB Academy in East Hartford ranked at No. 1.
