The program, Bridges to Learning, offers a rich and challenging curriculum in a nurturing, loving environment. The class includes between eight and 12 students with two experienced teachers.
The program is from 9 a.m. to 1:55 p.m. weekdays; doors open at 8:30 a.m. for drop-off with class starting at 9 a.m. For more information, visit the website.
The Bridges to Learning Program is designed to foster independence and self-esteem through problem-solving and imaginative and creative play.
The program encourages the social and emotional development of each child with an emphasis on age-appropriate behaviors, as well as making good decisions. The curriculum incorporates the Everyday Math Program, Discovering Science, Zoophonics and Handwriting Without Tears.
Emerging literacy focuses on stories and experiences that encourage reading and an appreciation for literature.
Fine motor skills are developed at a kindergarten level with emphasis on proper pencil grips and use of scissors, while gross motor skills are encouraged through activities that include throwing, catching, skipping, running and overall good sportsmanship.
Children are exposed to foreign language and yoga/movement classes throughout the year. The school strives to develop a love of learning in a nurturing, values-based environment through play and theme-based experiences that prepare each child socially, emotionally, and academically with readiness skills for a successful transition to kindergarten and life beyond.
Founded in 1959, First Presbyterian Church Nursery School educates students from ages 2 through pre-kindergarten. The purpose of the First Presbyterian Church Nursery School is to design and implement a program that meets the cognitive, social and emotional needs of the community's children.
