Greenwich Ed Board OKs $135M Budget Plan

A final agreement on reductions in Superintendent Sidney Freund’s 2011-12 budget proposal was reached at the Board of Education’s meeting Thursday night.

After 2 ½ hours of debate, the board voted in favor of a $135.5 million plan, or $200,000 less than what Freund proposed last month. The approved budget calls for an increase of 10.75 positions, including a part-time social worker and a math coach.

The amount approved is almost $52,000 less than guidelines set by the Board of Estimate and Taxation. The Representative Town Meeting will vote on the full town budget in May.
