Greenwich Academy To Remember Sharon Dietzel

Greenwich Academy will remember the life of Sharon L. Dietzel, former head of the upper and middle schools, Jan. 23. Dietzel died on Dec. 1.

She began her career at the Vail Deane School in Elizabeth, N.J., and moved on to the Columbus School for Girls in Columbus, Ohio. She taught mathematics at the Brearley School in Manhattan for two years before coming to Greenwich Academy in 1989. Throughout her tenure at GA Dietzel taught honors algebra. She planned on retiring in 1996, and after a failed attempt returned to GA as head of upper school in 2006.

In her spare time she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Al, and listening to music, especially the GA Madrigal Singers.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two children, Jill and Scott; two stepchildren, Cathy and Debbie; a brother, Daniel, seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The service is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Greenwich Academy's Massey Theater.
