Greenwich Academy Magazine Honored

Greenwich Academy's art and literary magazine Daedalus 2010 has received glowing marks from the judges of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The association's judges praised the student publication for its "professional" organization and "beautiful" poetry.

"Daedalus is full of very talented and dedicated members," said senior Giulia Caterini, "so it's amazing to see all our hard work come to fruition." Caterini is co-editor of the magazine with senior Lili Rosenkranz.

GA director of communications Mary Lou Evans said the awards are given only when a publication has placed in the 95th percentile or higher in one or more of the three judging categories: organization, content and design. She quoted one of the judges as saying: "The diversity of the work included in 'Daedalus' is astounding.

The magazine, which has been published for 23 years, also earned a Gold Medalist from the CSPA. The Medalist Critiques are based on standards that list the best practices for student media. The judges review the publication and write instructions on how to improve the quality and standard.

The staff of Daedalus is already working on the 2010-2011 issue. "We are pushing ourselves and looking forward to releasing an even more beautiful issue this coming spring," said Caterini.
