Greenwich Academy Goes Full Swing

The girls of Greenwich Academy were swinging into the Pethick Dance Studio on Thursday, when they were treated to a special performance and workshop with the Ground Grippers Dance Company.

According to Mary Lou Evans, director of communications, dance students, GA Dance Corps, Junior Dance and dance instructors watched a short video of the Ground Grippers and then joined the experts in a swing dance, taking cues from the music.

The Ground Grippers, a New-York based company, was co-founded by Jessi Patz and Felix Pitre III. Dancers in the group have combined their accomplishments in ballroom, contemporary and modern dance to look at the sociopolitical implications of pair dancing. Each couple looks at the relationship between state and society and draws movements from history and personal experiences.
