Hard work and years of study paid off for a Greenwich High School student who achieved a perfect combined 2,400 score on her SATs was honored at the Board of Education's meeting Thursday.
"I studied really, really hard for it," said Klara Zimmerman, who chalked up her achievement to confidence, practice tests and prep courses. Greenwich High School Headmaster Chris Winters and guidance counselor Brenda Frielder honored Klara at the board meeting at North Street School.
"Last spring I had the honor of introducing another student, and I said that night he was one of 291 in the nation who did this. Now there are 292," Winters said. "I have known Klara all her life, and I watched her thrive at International School at Dundee and again at Eastern Middle School, and I could not be more honored than to recognize one of the nicest people I know."
Winters also read a letter about Klara from Brenda Frielder, who said Klara's perfect score is just one of her many attributes. She is also an artist, a distinguished scholar in U.S. history, a volunteer at the Greenwich Historical Society where she also works as a camp counselor, a volunteer with disabled children, a meal server for the elderly and a Greenwich High School mentor.
"She's a woman of humility, of honor, she's intellectually keen, she's got a giant heart and she really cares about the betterment of her school and community," said Friedler. "She's one of the most extraordinary young women I've met in my 35 years."
Klara said she's not sure where she would like to go to college or what she plans to study. "I really like everything, so I'm not sure yet," she said.
