GA's RoboElite Team Wins State Championship

Greenwich Academy's RoboElite Team is heading to St. Louis to compete in the National FIRST Lego League Championship. The girls placed 1st overall out of 125 teams at the 12th annual Connecticut FIRST Lego League Championship.

"I knew they worked hard and deserved praise and credit but, I never imagined they would come this far in such a short time," said coach Gail Sestito. "Their spirit and dedication got them to this point and I was literally in tears with joy when they were presented with the award."

Out of numerous competitors, Greenwich Academy was the only all-girl team to make it to the qualifying rounds. The RoboElite robot was designed with a dual-functioning plow on the back and forklift on the front. Taking a minimalist approach to the design, the students were able to focus on having seamless transitions during play and between tasks.

The students are currently prepping for Nationals in April and GA's ROBOnanza on Feb. 26. "I will put them back together in order to fine tune their robot program, practice their presentation and reconnect all of those energetic wires they have inside of them."
