12 Greenwich Academy Girls Are Merit Semifinalists

GREENWICH, Conn. – Twelve Greenwich Academy students were chosen National Merit Semifinalists for the 2011-2012 school year, the school reported last week.

In early September, 16,000 students of 50,000 high scorers on the Practice Scholastic Aptitude Test were notified they qualified as semifinalists. Each semifinalist is in the highest scoring bracket in each state. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation sponsors college undergraduate scholarships to honor academically talented students nationwide.

The Greenwich Academy seniors who earned this standing were Hayley Arader, Claire Blumenthal, Rebecca Deubler, Elizabeth Frank, Izzy Dowling, Molly Gendell, Meagan Goldman, Katherine Goldsmith, Arusha Jauhari, Audrey Keller, Karna Nangia, and Cameron Ruffa.

Semifinalists must advance to finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards by writing an essay, maintaining a high academic record, and taking the SAT and earning a score that confirms the performance on the PSAT.
