A day after testifying that she told “white lies” for President Donald Trump in front of the House Intelligence Committee over Russian meddling in the 2016 election, White House Communications Director Hope Hicks has resigned from her position in a major surprise.

The 29-year-old Greenwich native provided private testimony for nearly 10 hours on Tuesday, where she reportedly discussed her time on the campaign trail with Trump, though she declined to answer questions about other figures involved in the campaign or the current White House.

On Wednesday, Hicks, one of the president’s longest-serving advisers and close confidants announced her resignation, which is expected to come in the next few weeks.

According to the New York Times , Hicks had been considering leaving the administration for months, telling colleagues that she “had accomplished what she felt she could with a job that made her one of the most powerful people in Washington, and that there would never be a perfect moment to leave.”

It was not clear on Wednesday what would be next for Hicks, a former model and actress. Her successor was not named.

“Hope is outstanding and has done great work for the last three years,” Trump said in a statement. “She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person. I will miss having her by my side, but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood. I am sure we will work together again in the future.”

The New York Times reported that Hicks “insisted that she had not lied about matters material to the investigations into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible links to Trump associates,” during her testimony on Tuesday.

Hicks reportedly refused to answer most questions about her work in the Trump administration, though she acknowledged during the meeting that she has “told white lies for the president.”

At Tuesday’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the administration “(is) cooperating because, as the president has said repeatedly, there is no collusion and we’re going to continue to cooperate and hopefully they wrap this up soon.”

Before joining Trump's 2016 campaign, Hicks had no political experience. She was born in Greenwich, was a former model, actress and lacrosse standout before getting her English degree at Southern Methodist University.
