She was joined by U.S. Rep. Jim Himes and a crowd of more than 50 friends and supporters.
Bhargava, a Democrat, is running in the 151st House District in Greenwich against four-time incumbent Republican and fellow Greenwich resident Fred Camillo.
“It's hard to imagine a candidate better qualified, more thoughtful and better able to really offer up a constructive dialogue, debate and hopefully a victory in November,” Himes said at Bhargava's event. “[Dita] is exactly the kind of person we want on our team and ultimately representing this area in Hartford, where the challenges will be significant in the coming years.”
Bhargava, daughter of a single immigrant mother of three, spoke of how her mother always provided “the encouragement to always strive to reach our full potential and to never forget about those who continue to struggle.”
It was those values, she said, that inspired her to run for office and be “a voice in legislation and ensure all our residents have equal opportunity."
"As state representative, I want to work hard to ensure all our children have access to a high-quality education that prepares them for the 21st-century job market and future," she said, according to a press release. "That our working families have access to family leave and to quality early childhood care and that our elderly residents have the comforts in life that they need and deserve in their retirement years."
Bhargava, who spent more than 20 years working in the financial industry as a trader and hedge fund manager, also stressed the importance of getting Connecticut’s fiscal house back in order, not through tax increases but by “finding ways to make our state more competitive so that families and businesses are enticed to move here so we can raise our revenues organically.”
