The event is organized by Dita Bhargava, a candidate for governor in 2018 from Greenwich, along with Action Together Connecticut and Common Ground for the Common Good.
“Chris Fountain’s comments were beyond offensive,” said Bhargava. “Our system of democracy is strongest when average citizens decide to stand up and take part, especially at the local level. The women running for the RTM should be commended, not demeaned by someone who thrives making people angry. We have enough of that coming out of Washington.”

“The women running for the RTM don’t fit in one ideological box,” said Jennie Baird, an organizer of March On Greenwich and one of the groups that recruited candidates for the RTM election. “They’re Republicans, Democrats and Independents, who feel a responsibility to take part in our government. It’s been overwhelming to say the least how much this movement has grown over the last few months. Who knows where this will take us next?”
In his blog, "For What It's Worth: Greenwich, Connecticut real estate, politics, and more," Greenwich Realtor Christopher Fountain urges residents to not vote for the women who are petition candidates in the race for the town's Representative Town Meeting.
Even as Fountain wrote "I'm trolling here," the conservative blogger said the women would bring a liberal agenda and national politics to the RTM. The post is titled, "How we recruited 50 (left wing pussyhat) candidates to run for office in Greenwich, Ct."
Up to 50 women with no previous political experience are "suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome," he wrote on his blog. There are 230 seats up for election on the RTM, the town's legislative body.
He called the candidates "a band of far-left women, mostly wealthy housewives with nothing much to do now that summer's ended and those handsome country club tennis pros have returned to college."
Fountain calls for residents to boycott these candidates, who he said will push a liberal agenda on the RTM — such as a sanctuary city, resolutions demanding the impeachment of Trump, gun control, or rent control.
“We’ve banked over 200,000 phone calls in conjunction with candidates running for office across the state and we intend to keep working through Tuesday night." said Terra Volpe of Action Together Connecticut. "We’re looking forward to the rally and Get Out The Vote On Monday night.”
“When left to their own devices men like Fountain have driven our country to the edge of a cliff, said Juliana Hess of CGCG. “It is time to leave the 1940s behind and walk firmly into America’s future with more women at the helm. Luckily for us, last year’s election resulted in a wake-up call for women across the socio-political and professional spectrum to make their voices heard in order to make a difference.”
The rally will be outside Greenwich Town Hall at 101 Field Point Road.
