Traffic delays of over 7 miles are reported back to Exit 13 in Darien, DOT said.
Original story: GREENWICH, Conn. — I-95 southbound was temporarily closed in Greenwich on Tuesday morning due to a pedestrian fatality on the highway, state police said via Twitter.
The accident is near Exit 6 in Greenwich, state police said.
Traffic was being diverted at Exit 6 and returning to I-95 at Exit 5, police said.
State Police and the Greenwich Fire Department are on the scene of the accident.
Southbound traffic is congested for over 4 miles through Stamford and back to Exit 10 in Darien, said the state Department of Transportation. Heavy traffic was reported on Greenwich streets in the area due to the detour.
Northbound I-95 is also congested for nearly 4 miles between Exits 3 and 6 near the accident scene, DOT said.
No details were available on the accident. It was not clear when the highway will reopen.
