Frank B. Mcbrearity, 72, of 27 Turtle Back Lane, was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace, interfering with an officer and failure to obey an officer's signal.
The officer was directing traffic at a construction site at 309 Palmer Hill Road at about 9:30 a.m. when Mcbrearity, a motorist, became upset with him, police said. The officer attempted to have Mcbrearity move along, but he got out of his vehicle and began arguing with the officer, police said. He was told to get back in his vehicle and proceed through the traffic zone, police said.
Traffic at this time was stalled in both lanes. He got into his vehicle and drove up to the officer, police said.
"He chose to be confrontational and at one point attempted to use his car to intimidate the officer," said Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray.
The officer told him to get out of his vehicle, but the man refused. As the officer attempted to handcuff Mcbrearity, he became physically combative with the officer, police said. Other officers arrived and the man was taken into custody, police said.
He was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 15.
